Apps, Tips & Tricks to Help You Drink More Water

Water is absolutely essential to life. As human beings, we are made out of nearly 60% water. To say water is a vital element of life is a serious understatement, but many people are chronically dehydrated and falling short of their recommended 64 ounces per day. While many people have their reasons for not drinking enough water – noting that they don’t like the taste, or they simply don’t feel thirsty, or they forget to sip on it throughout the day – it’s critical to make sure you get enough water each day. To help you stay hydrated and healthy, we’ve compiled a list of helpful tips and useful apps to encourage you to drink up!

Tips & Tricks to Stay Hydrated

Whether you enjoy the taste of water or not, you have to admit that it’s important to make sure you stay hydrated. If you’ve been grudgingly tiptoeing around your water requirements, have you thought about tricking yourself into drinking it? Here are four helpful tips to motivate you to stay hydrated.

Add Flavour to Your Water

Many people don’t like the taste of their municipality’s water, so if you’re grimacing at the flavour of your tap water, why not mask it instead? You can buy flavour drops at most major grocery stores, but you can also infuse your water, too. Drop fresh fruit, lemon wedges, mint, and cucumber into your water to make it more enjoyable!

Spring for a Fancy Bottle

If you do not want to drink your water because you’re not motivated or not holding yourself accountable, you may benefit by purchasing a cool water bottle for yourself. Make sure it’s one you really like so you’re motivated to use it and don’t want it to go to waste. It’s also a good idea to get one with measurements marked on it so you can tell how much you’ve consumed each day so far.

Invest in a Water Filter

If you can’t hide the taste of icky water, why not fix it instead? A water filtration system can help remove all the foul-tasting impurities that can ruin your drink. By purchasing a water filter, you can make sure you have cool, fresh, and delicious water all day long at your fingertips.

Substitute Sparkling Water or Tea

If you’re out and about and you don’t want to order water at a restaurant, then you can always get some herbal tea or sparkling water. Many people find the mildly pleasant taste of herbal tea to be enough to motivate them to drink more. The same goes for sparkling water; it has no sugars that can destroy your teeth, but the bubbles are fun and satisfying on your palate!

Apps to Help You Drink More Water

Of course, since we now live in a digital era, we all have our mobile devices on us 24/7. If you feel like you need a little extra help to encourage you to drink enough water, why not download one (or more!) of these three apps?

My Water Balance

This app allows you to personalize it to your needs. It asks questions about yourself to determine how much water you require and allows you to set your goal in ounces or liters. Every time you drink water, it gives you a boost on a percentage score. Your goal is to hit 100 percent!

Plant Nanny

If you won’t drink water for yourself, will you at least do it for your virtual plant? This app is a cute option and barters the life of an imaginary plant to coax you to drink water. Every time you take a drink, you water your “plant.” If you don’t drink enough, your poor plant suffers.

Drink Water Reminder

This is another personalized app that wants to know your schedule to encourage you to drink enough water. Its objective is to learn more about what you do on a day to day basis, then it’ll send you prompts throughout the day to tell you it’s time to take a tip.
